Handmade picture flowers in a pot - Mother's Day Crafts

Handmade picture flowers in a pot - Mother's Day Crafts

Every holiday we are always making fun keepsakes for meme, grandma and other special family members. Two years ago we made these special flower pots and placed baby pictures of the kids in them .

The are very easy to make. For the flower part we used cupcake holders and for the stem we used popsicle sticks. Then to hold the special picture flowers in the flower pot we used styrofoam. This craft is fun and easy for all ages. You can get all the supplies from the Dollar Store and have enough supplies to make several.

If you like to make handmade gifts for that special someone in your family or life be sure to check out the links below.

Simple Denim Aprons for Mother's Day Gifts!

Simple Denim Aprons for Mother's Day Gifts!

I decided that this is going to be a Denim week so I thought I would continue on with some more Jean Ideas. If you have some jeans that wont fit here is something fun to try!

I was thinking this would be fun to make for my son's teacher for Teacher Appreciation Week that is coming up in May. I also think this would be a very cute gift for Mother's Day for my mom. She is always crafting with my daughter. It would be fun to make them matching ones to keep at her house.

Here is the front and back view.  Isnt it cute?

How to?

You cut the behind part of the jeans off to use as the font of your apron, leaving the back two pockets intact to use for towels, utensils, etc.

Then cut a 3-4 inch piece of fabric to the length you will need for your edges (Dont forget to leave 8-10 inches extra if you are ruffling it!) and hem one edge under.  My Grandma used a Zig-Zag stitch and I think it is really cute.

Then sew fabric onto the edges in a ruffle or straight seam.  Mine is ruffled and the little one is straight.  For the ruffle I would just put the right sides together and sew in a zig zag tucking here and there for the ruffle effect.  If you are more of a seamstress you could adjust the tension very loose and make the ruffle on your machine, then sew it on.  For the straight seam, the fabric looks like she just folded it over the denim and sewed it on with a straight stitch.  Easy, easy...haha, but we should never say that in sewing!

Then you have to sew on some fabric to tie it on with. Ours are only long enough to tie in a knot, not a bow.  It is about 16-18 inches from the denim on each side.  To make the tie just cut a strip of fabric about 4 inches wide.  The fold it in half the long way and sew it together with the wrong side out.  Leave one end open.  Then turn it right side out and you are ready to sew it on.  It is sewn onto the top section of the denim.  The top of the ruffle is folded over and then zig-zagged onto the tie.

If you have any questions leave me a comment!  I am a guesser at sewing so my instructions may not be all that clear!!

Happy Crafting to You!

Overnight Caramel French Toast | Easy & Fun Recipes

Overnight Caramel French Toast | Easy & Fun Recipes

This is a great recipe for breakfast or dessert. It's super easy to make. And it's very rich (and fattening) but oh, sooo yummy!

Ingredients:

French Baguette, better if it's one day old -- you may use French Bread but it is not as effective bcse it absorbs more of the egg mixture

Egg Topping:
3 Eggs
1/2 C milk
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp salt

Caramel Sauce:
1 C brown sugar
6 Tbsp butter
1/3 C whipping or heavy cream
1 Tbsp corn syrup

Directions:
1. Slice bread into 1-1/4" pieces.
2. On medium heat, heat all caramel sauce ingredients just until the butter melts. Do not boil.
3. Pour into 9x13" glass dish.
4. Combine all egg ingredients into a shallow dish. Dip bread slices and coat both sides.
5. Place in 9x13"dish.
6. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
7. Bake in oven at 400 degrees for 20-25 minutes
Easy DIY Washer Necklaces

Easy DIY Washer Necklaces

How to make custom necklaces using washers and printed paper. Easy and fun!

I've seen these necklaces a couple of different places and I knew instantly I wanted to make a few. What's that? Oh you want to make one too? Well here's how:

Supplies

  • Washers - mine were 1.5 inches
  • Scrapbook Paper
  • Pencil or Punch the same size as your washers
  • Scissors (not needed if you have the punch)
  • Exacto Knife (not pictured)
  • Mod Podge and Sponge Brush
  • Sanding Block
  • Liquid Glass/Glossy Accents (Clear liquid embellishment)
  • Leather cording

How to

  1. Trace and cut out circles the size of your washers. If you have a punch, consider yourself lucky. :) I cut out two circles for each necklace.
  2. Glue a circle onto one side of your washer. Use a semi-generous amount of Mod Podge, and make sure you get all the edges. (If you don't the clear glaze will pull up the edges as it dries.) Wipe off any extra around the sides. Let it "mostly" dry.
  3. Using the exact-o knife, cut out the center of the washer. Repeat steps 2 and 3 on the other side of the washer. Now you can let both sides completely dry.
  4. Sand down the edges and inside of the washer. This step gets rid of any imperfections in your paper cutting and the extra Mod Podge dried on the outside. To get the inner hole, I shoved a corner of my sanding block through.
  5. Squeeze the clear liquid embellishment on and spread it around so it covers the whole piece. Let dry completely. Repeat on the other side.
  6. String leather cording through... and you're done!
