Ways to Love Your Mom on Mother’s Day

Ways to Love Your Mom on Mother’s Day

Growing up and watching commercials around Mother’s Day, I thought that the ultimate gift was an expensive necklace, a bouquet of roses, or a spa package. I figured that when I could afford those things, I would get her these types of gifts every year.

Now that I am a mother of two young children, I can see that there is so much value in heartfelt gratitude. The suggestions I offer for this Mother’s Day is based not just on what your mother deserves, but on what speaks to her the most.

So, for this Mother’s Day, think about how you can show her you love her in the way that speaks most to her. Here are some suggestions:

Physical Touch

Maybe this sounds odd, after all, this is your mother. But physical touch doesn’t always mean what you think it means. It can mean a hug, holding her hand, brushing her hair, a foot massage, whatever you think she would love and you’d be comfortable with. If you aren’t a particularly touchy person, then this gesture might mean something extra special to her. Couple it with another love language, like making her dinner, or a small gift.

Words of Affirmation

Does your mom keep notes that others have written to her in a special place? Does she seem to melt when you tell her you appreciate her? Her love language may be words of affirmation. For this, write her a nice note, or record a video of you telling her specific things you have learned from her.

I once made a PowerPoint for a class about how my mom was my hero and it made her cry. It cost me nothing but my time, and it was completely worth the investment in our relationship bank account.

Quality Time

If your mom just loves spending time with you, take her on a Mother’s Day date. Maybe she’d love a bike ride or a walk in a park. Ask her about her life and listen to understand, so refrain from talking about yourself.

Talk to her about the things that she would love to do or the things that she wishes would get better in her life. Is there a restaurant she’s been wanting to go to? Or a local concert that weekend? You could take her to a paint-your-own-pottery venue and paint a memorable keepsake together.

Acts of Service

Your mother did her best to raise you, a service that you’ll likely never be able to repay! However, if you do think that she would see an act of service as you’re love for her, try first to think of something that she might not be able to do herself because of lack of time or resources- an act of service goes beyond just doing the dishes.

Make her a meal, fix something in her car or house that she hasn’t gotten around to.

Plant her something beautiful in her garden, or weed her garden and do other yard work. My grandfather once bought everyone in his family an annual membership to AAA. The effort of going out of your way to do something for her will be memorable and appreciated.

Receiving Gifts

I have heard people say that this love language is too expensive and high maintenance, but I believe that to be a misconception. I think that the assumption behind that idea is that the more elaborate the gift is, the more meaningful it will be for the person receiving it. However, those whose love language is gift giving will tell you that this is not true.

To speak love in this way has more to do with the thoughtfulness than the actual gift. For example, maybe your mom has been mentioning how she wants to redecorate her house. You could pay for an expensive interior designer, but you could also get her a subscription to Real Simple magazine, or print and frame (there are many inexpensive ones at craft stores) a few of her favorite pictures.

Don’t get to see her very often? Does she complain about not having any pictures of you or your kids? Use an app like Groovebook to upload pictures from your phone.

For less than $3.50 a month (not an annual subscription, and you can cancel anytime) they will print up to 100 pictures and put them in a book with perforated edges so she can pull out the ones she likes. Ultimately, you can always make her something, a special keepsake, that you think will help her feel loved and it often speaks just as well as an expensive gift.

Get to know your mother’s language and then speak love to her in a way that would speak the loudest to her. However, you cannot go wrong with doing something to fit each of these languages.

I understand that life and relationships are complicated and can bring the most joy and the most sorrow. I want you to be able to enjoy your life and relationships without feeling chained down.

10 Easy DIY Mother's Day Gift Ideas Kids Can Make

10 Easy DIY Mother's Day Gift Ideas Kids Can Make

Mother’s Day is coming up, which means that it is time to think about some DIY Mother’s Day gifts. I wanted to do something special for little ones … like really little ones.

Whether you’re a Mom looking for something that your wee little ones can make for their grandmothers or even a Dad who wants to do something special for Mom this Mother’s Day, these DIY gifts to make with kids are so simple that, well toddlers can make them!

Fingerprint hearts

Using paper or a small canvas from your local craft store, have each child place a finger in a color paint and then press their fingerprint to the paper or canvas. Paint the finger again and carefully place it down on the paper or canvas to turn each print into a heart shape. Make sure you date this work of art, so years later mom can remember how tiny those itty bitty fingers once were.

Pom-pom Bouquet

Kids can make Mom an evergreen yarn bouquet to symbolize their everlasting love. Start by placing a green pipe cleaner parallel with the tines of a fork so that it extends 3 inches above the tines. Wrap yarn perpendicularly around all the tines. Fold the 3-inch section of pipe cleaner down over the yarn, slide everything off the fork, and wrap the two pieces of pipe cleaner together. Carefully cut the wrapped yarn and trim any scraggly ends. Repeat as desired. Wrap stems together with a length of ribbon.

Handprint bouquet

Love this handprint bouquet from The Trendy Treehouse! All you need is a large piece of construction paper and some washable finger paint. Have your kids place their handprints on the page to create the "flowers."

Flower Petal Change Bowl

We know moms love all things organization, so what’s better than a handmade bowl that she can use to corral loose change. To create your sculpture, use Sculpey (or another oven baked clay) to form a large flower petal. Form a smaller petal and press it into the center of the larger petal. Place plastic beads in bottom of the bowl. Bake, per package instructions, to melt plastic and harden clay.

Stitched Paper Cards

Show Mom the love with a hand-cut and stitched card. Start by cutting a shape (try a flower or an animal shape) from medium to thick craft paper. Punch holes along the border with a small hole punch. Stitch, using embroidery floss, thin twine, or yarn. Add additional flare like a pipe cleaner stem and a pretty vintage button.

Craft Stick Picture Frame

Once the kids have picked out their favorite photo with Mom, they can proudly display it against a handmade frame. The brighter, the better!

Coin Purse

Lay a handkerchief flat with one pointed end at the top. Fold the bottom point up so that it rests in the center of the fabric. Pull the left and right points toward the center, overlapping them slightly. Tack down sides that overlap the bottom triangle using fusible webbing. Sew on a small snap to hold the top flap closed. Add a decorative button on top, if desired.

Handprint Apron

A simple, easy craft can go a long way. This apron takes little time to put together, but will bring a smile to your face every time you wear it.

Tin Can Planters

Mom will have the most loved-up garden on the block thanks to these personalized planters. Little ones can decorate the cans however they please with alphabet stickers.

Origami Heart Bookmarks

For every gripping page-turner, she'll have a place to mark her spot and a loving little reminder of the thoughtful kids behind these bookmarks.

Mother's Day Gifts Your Mom Will Actually Use

Mother's Day Gifts Your Mom Will Actually Use

Mother's Day is almost upon us! It's okay if you forgot, there's been a lot going on. While most of us cannot visit our mommas this year, this is absolutely still a time to show her that you appreciate and are thinking about her. The traditional Mother's Day gifts are flowers and chocolates, but this isn't a traditional year by any means, and you shouldn't buy a traditional gift because of that.

Everyone's life has changed in the last few months, and your Mother's Day gift should be something to help them through it. Whether they're attempting to work from home, are still getting the hang of video-chatting with the friends they'd usually meet for brunch. Or they're just trying to not drown in the chaos of dealing with all of your siblings' distance learning and keeping a household together.

Here are some practical gifts for mom that could show your appreciation for months to come.

Caring and calming

There are no spas or salons open in most places right now, and while that might not mean much to you, it's something that your mother is almost certainly aware of. I know mine is, and while I'm not sure when I'll be able to go get pedicures with her again, I know that a gift card for a spa day is a promise that we'll get to enjoy that pampering together at some point in the future.

If you prefer to get Mom something she can use right now — after all, we're not sure when things will be up and running again — you can help them have that spa day feeling at home. Bath bombs are great and all, but baths take a while to draw and a while to soak in, and not everyone has that kind of time.

A bit of brightness

Most of us are not used to staying inside for so much of the day while self-isolating, and if your mother doesn't live in a house with a home garden, one way you might bring a little outdoor cheer inside is by skipping the cut flowers and buying a live, low-maintenance plant instead.

Succulents are cute little plants that require very little upkeep, but if you want something a little more colorful, there's also Kaffir Lilies, Oxalis, Bromeliads, and Holiday Cactus. Aloe Vera is another low-maintenance plant that can be useful in treating sunburns.

If your mother isn't much of a green thumb, another way to help brighten up their day is with what brightens up most of our mornings: coffee!

Tech support

You can't give your mom peace and quiet in most households, but you can give her the next best thing: noise-canceling headphones that she can wear for a short break while the kids are working on their homework or being herded by her partner. Active Noise Canceling headphones used to run hundreds and hundreds of dollars, but now we can get a reliable, comfortable set for a much more reasonable price. TaoTronics have upgraded this model with USB-C charging and Bluetooth 5.0 for a more stable connection.

Since we're mostly seeing our parents on video calls — and really, above all else, call your mother on Mother's Day — why not make it easier for your mom to enjoy these calls without dropping the phone every five minutes or having it slip down from the mug she propped it up against?

We might not be able to come home and surprise Mom with flowers and lunch out at her favorite restaurant, but we can still show we care in small ways that can add up to a big impact. So ditch the flashy flowers and the boxes of chocolates — seriously, they'll just go on sale next week — and buy her something that'll last and something that she'll actually be able to use in this new abnormal.

As a final note, while I would love to recommend buying your mom a cute face mask, keep in mind the ship times for most good masks are weeks and weeks away — and your mom should already have one. Also, keep in mind the material, the health rating, and the fit of a mask when buying for someone, because good, reusable cloth masks are not one size fits all.

5 Mother's Day Gifts For The Cool And Tech Savvy Mom

5 Mother's Day Gifts For The Cool And Tech Savvy Mom

Every year, I find it hard to come up with a good gift idea for Mother's Day. Every single year. After the typical uninspired card & flowers, chocolates, and hugs were met with a tangible air of disappointment, I knew I needed to come up with something far better. Mother's Day is meant to celebrate our moms, after all.

Mother's Day shouldn't be just an afterthought, which is why I find this kind of list so incredibly helpful - they can give us a better idea of what options are out there, depending on the type of person your mom is.

On this particular occasion, we're thinking about those tech-savvy moms for whom technology is a must, who always wants to be up-to-date with the latest gadgets, and who enjoys the comforts of smart accessories for home and work. If you have that kind of mom, then pay close attention.

Here are 5 tech-related gifts for you to show how much your mom means to you this Mother's Day.

Smart Watch

This is the age of smart accessories, as you'll see. First on the list: the smart watch, a great gadget to keep up with just about anything from the comfort of your own wrist. This convenient little thing will allow you to check your messages and emails, send texts, make calls, check the weather, set reminders, and, of course, check the time—all through a readily-available gadget right at your fingertips. Much more convenient than taking out your phone, that's for sure.

Smart watches were a rarity just a few years ago. Now, however, there's an overwhelming amount of options; from the sports-friendly to the elegant. The choice is yours.

Smart Speaker

Speaking of comforts, what's better than listening to music, getting the weather, checking your schedule, programming alarms, and getting any piece of information you can think of—all without so much as lifting a finger?

Smart speakers have been getting better and more helpful with each iteration, and they all have great potential for making your life way easier.

Tablet

Today's ultimate gadget, the tablets (together with smartphones) have been a staple and the tip of the spear when it comes to technological advancement. So, it's only appropriate to gift one for a tech-themed Mother's Day.

As with smart watches, there are options galore when it comes to tablets, so you're sure to find one that's right for your mom.

Smart Coffee Maker

For all the tech-savvy, coffee lover moms out there, there's hardly a more perfect gift than this. Give her the choice to upgrade her morning routine with her much-needed dose of early caffeine, but to do so easily and in style. Everything is becoming smart these days, and coffee makers are no exception—so if you're gonna go "smart," you might as well go all the way. Your mom will surely appreciate it.

Though programmable coffee makers are nothing new, being able to program them through an app surely makes things much easier. Now that your mom will be able to set a more thorough schedule for her device, forgetting to set the machine to brew coffee in the morning will become a thing of the past (first world problems, right?).

Smart Writing Set

Moleskine is world-famous for their quality writers' notebooks, but did you know they also make a more digitally-friendly kind of pad? We all know there's no experience like writing on actual paper—your typical touch-screen is certainly no substitute for taking quality notes with the same kind of feeling. Enter the Moleskine Smart Writing Set, which allows to scribble or sketch anything you want on actual paper and then automatically render it digitally and upload it to your app.

There you have it, the ultimate list of gift ideas for your tech-savvy mom. So, while she'll love you regardless of what you give to her on Mother's Day, why not go the extra mile to make her life just a bit easier, more convenient, and outright fun. Let us know what you ended up getting for her on the comments below!

Mother's Day Poems

Mother's Day Poems

Mother's Day, the most meaningful and revered of all days in the year makes you realize what your mom really means to you and how much you love her. It is quite natural that in today's busy world, people get involved in their work and find no time to express their emotions, whether it is love, respect or anything else.

This day, dedicated exclusively to mothers, is an opportunity to make your mother happy. Tell her how much you love her and value her through some sweet poems inscribed in a handmade card or with a pampering gift. Let her know how her love helped you conquer the world and how her support enabled you to confront the worst.

Mother's day poems are the best way to make your mother happy on this wonderful occasion. Given below are some interesting mother's day poems that could help you celebrate this day.

"I Love You" - Carl Sandburg

I love you,
said a great mother.
"I love you for what you are
knowing so well what you are.
And I love you more yet, child,
deeper yet than ever, child,
for what you are going to be,
knowing so well you are going far,
knowing your great works are ahead,
ahead and beyond,
yonder and far over yet."
Only One Mother
"Hundreds of stars in the pretty sky,
Hundreds of shells on the shore together,
Hundreds of birds that go singing by,
Hundreds of lambs in the sunny weather.
Hundreds of dewdrops to greet the dawn,
Hundreds of bees in the purple clover,
Hundreds of butterflies on the lawn,
But only one mother the world wide over.

Mother's Love

Her love is like
an island in life's ocean,
vast and wide
A peaceful, quiet shelter
From the wind, the rain, the tide.
'Tis bound on the north by Hope,
By Patience on the West,
By tender Counsel on the South
And on the East by Rest.
Above it like a beacon light
Shine Faith, and Truth, and Prayer;
And thro' the changing scenes of life
I find a haven there.

A Mother's Love - Julia Hunt

There are times when only a Mother's love
Can understand our tears,
Can soothe our disappoints
And calm all of our fears.
There are times when only a Mother's love
Can share the joy we feel
When something we've dreamed about
Quite suddenly is real.
There are times when only a Mother's faith
Can help us on life's way
And inspire in us the confidence
We need from day to day.
For a Mother's heart and a Mother's faith
And a Mother's steadfast love
Were fashioned by the Angels
And sent from God above."
Thank God for our Mothers
If life were without water, where would we be?
If life were without mothers,
There would be no you or me.
We all need to take hold, of how precious life really is,
and not take for granted the gift of love and the ability to give.
Thank you to God for creating us all
For giving us our mothers
So we can stand proud and tall.
Humans are no accident, no mistake or error
We sometimes live our lives in fear of this,
Even to the point of terror.
But when the truth is told, and recognised by all,
God does not create rubbish. He knew what he was doing when he created
me and you, but the best gift of all, is giving us loving, caring
Mothers who love us unconditionally through and through.
None of us are perfect, that includes ourselves and family.
Hold onto how precious we are and thank God for our mothers.
Amen

Mother's day is a day to celebrate the friendship and companionship in your life, in the form of your mother. Here are some famous quotes to read and enjoy.

Mother's day is a special day, when you show your reverence to your mother for all the efforts and sacrifices she made and continues to do so to be a dedicated mom. It is an occasion to express your love for all her unconditional loving over the years. Moms, in broad terms are simple, strict, traditional, soft, and cool; all at the same time. They have been, are, and will always be the centre of attraction for the kids; everything mothers do or speak holds tremendous importance in the eyes of a child.

Mother's Day Love Quotes

Mother's Day Love Quotes

The relationship which is shared by a mother and her child is priceless in its truest sense. From the day of your birth, you remember her bestowing her love upon you for nothing in return at all. The toil and hardships that she faces to let you grow peacefully are unimaginably big. Things she sacrificed for your prosperous future are beyond belief.

However, she never complained and went on being that sweet mother of yours. In return, to honour this divine entity a day was devoted entirely to her and was called Mother's Day. It was in the year 1914, when the American president Woodrow Wilson proclaimed every second Sunday of May as a national holiday, officially declaring it as a Mother's Day. It's a tribute to all the mothers of this world: celebrated to honour all the mothers and an expression of gratitude for the hardships they have gone through.

So, show them your gratitude with choicest selection of words, by expressing your love with these quotes.

Handmade picture flowers in a pot - Mother's Day Crafts

Every holiday we are always making fun keepsakes for meme, grandma and other special family members. Two years ago we made these special flower pots and placed baby pictures of the kids in them .

The are very easy to make. For the flower part we used cupcake holders and for the stem we used popsicle sticks. Then to hold the special picture flowers in the flower pot we used styrofoam. This craft is fun and easy for all ages. You can get all the supplies from the Dollar Store and have enough supplies to make several.

Simple Denim Aprons for Mother's Day Gifts!

Simple Denim Aprons for Mother's Day Gifts!

I decided that this is going to be a Denim week so I thought I would continue on with some more Jean Ideas. If you have some jeans that wont fit here is something fun to try!

I was thinking this would be fun to make for my son's teacher for Teacher Appreciation Week that is coming up in May. I also think this would be a very cute gift for Mother's Day for my mom. She is always crafting with my daughter. It would be fun to make them matching ones to keep at her house.

Here is the front and back view.  Isnt it cute?

How to?

You cut the behind part of the jeans off to use as the font of your apron, leaving the back two pockets intact to use for towels, utensils, etc.

Then cut a 3-4 inch piece of fabric to the length you will need for your edges (Dont forget to leave 8-10 inches extra if you are ruffling it!) and hem one edge under.  My Grandma used a Zig-Zag stitch and I think it is really cute.

Then sew fabric onto the edges in a ruffle or straight seam.  Mine is ruffled and the little one is straight.  For the ruffle I would just put the right sides together and sew in a zig zag tucking here and there for the ruffle effect.  If you are more of a seamstress you could adjust the tension very loose and make the ruffle on your machine, then sew it on.  For the straight seam, the fabric looks like she just folded it over the denim and sewed it on with a straight stitch.  Easy, easy...haha, but we should never say that in sewing!

Then you have to sew on some fabric to tie it on with. Ours are only long enough to tie in a knot, not a bow.  It is about 16-18 inches from the denim on each side.  To make the tie just cut a strip of fabric about 4 inches wide.  The fold it in half the long way and sew it together with the wrong side out.  Leave one end open.  Then turn it right side out and you are ready to sew it on.  It is sewn onto the top section of the denim.  The top of the ruffle is folded over and then zig-zagged onto the tie.

If you have any questions leave me a comment!  I am a guesser at sewing so my instructions may not be all that clear!!

Happy Crafting to You!
